All councils are required to review their representation arrangements (number of councillors, how they are elected etc.) at least every six years. In addition, any council that has decided to establish Māori wards or constituencies must also undertake a review.
As a result, the following councils are either required to undertake reviews prior to the 2022 local authority elections or have chosen to do a further review for these elections:
All councils undertaking representation reviews are required to give public notice of their initial representation proposals no later than 8 September 2021. These proposals will then be open for public submissions.
